The Institute for National Transformation sent a young lady from their organisation at the last minute to replace someone else who was supposed to be part of The Ambassadors Leadership Programme. She was one of the first to arrive at the camp venue, where I was the coordinator—a slender, seemingly frail young girl. I later found out she almost missed the training due to health challenges. As she walked into the building, heading toward the hall where I was, I saw her and immediately, I heard in my spirit: She is the one.
While in camp, for some reason, Chijioke would always ask if I was okay and if I had eaten. I barely saw him during the day—he'd only show up at night after running around all day coordinating activities. Yet somehow, he still had the time and energy to check up on me.
After a few days of this consistent care, I realised it wasn't just routine kindness. He cared for others, yes—but my spirit sensed there was something more. So I began to pay closer attention to this young coordinator who was always looking out for me. He was a fine, handsome man, always dressed in a suit, with a cheerful spirit and an effortless ability to make people feel at ease.
Over the past four years, Chijioke has been my teacher, my coach, my brother—even a father figure at times. At some point, I began to wonder: Is this a dating relationship or a mentorship? But then I saw it—his patience, his intentionality, his Christ-like heart.
And today, I am deeply grateful—for his tutelage, for his love, and especially for how he constantly pushed me to hear God for myself because at a point, I was relying on his ability to hear God for us both instead of growing in my own relationship with God. But through it all, Chijioke remained steady, and now, more than ever, I thank God for him, I am grateful to God for Us. I am excited this is the first time in my life I am being excited at the thought of getting married I guess it is the perfect timing of God and everything is eventually adding up.
